Holy Knit Batman! It’s The Southern Cross Knitting Circle! Come join in – from beginners to experienced knitters. Now you can wile away the evening hours, stitch and bitch or flip the script and give Grandma a cardie next Christmas. Everyone welcome, young or old, blokes or ladies. Just bring down some wool and needles. Monday nights at 7pm in our Lounge, first area on the right as you walk in the front doors.

This is the perfect space – a large enclosed area with comfy couches and carpet to crawl around on! We also have our wonderful Amy on hand – she’ll help to keep your wee one happy while you kick back with a coffee and relax.
On Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 10am-12pm we have a professional massage therapist, offering up some relief for all of you hard-working parents! Enjoy a FREE 10 minute back, neck and shoulder massage while our lovely staff member Amy takes your baby off your hands… heaven! Did we mention this is free?!

Like a challenge? Rock in on a Tuesday night to our awesome general knowledge quiz, run by quizmaster Nick Fone on the mic and Dr Vesuvious on the organ. Vouchers and spot prizes are up for grabs! Whether you need to kick your night off with some intellectual stimulation or tire your brain out before bedtime, it’s a promise that choice times are to be had and entry is free for everyone. The quiz kicks off at 8pm and goes until around 10pm, so cruise in and grab a table. Easy.

This lovely wee event happens at ours every Wednesday from 6.30pm. Local singer-songwriters come along and literally sing for their supper – they entertain our guests, we make sure they’re fed! What a sweet little gig! We just love having Wellington’s talent on stage – each week showcase up and coming artists and established musicians working on new material. If you’re keen to kroon for you kai, drop a demo in for Mara or flick her an email on music@thecross.co.nz.

Remember back in the days, with the family Jenga set teetering precariously and worrying mum? Well, Jenga has grown up too, and now The Southern Cross Giant Jenga Comp is OOOONNN! For all those architecture students out there (and of course the rest of you structural timber enthusiasts too) come get busy with your building block skills and win some mean prizes here each Wednesday. In the garden bar, kicks off around 8pm – grab a drink and get involved. By the way, we have a referee on hand to make sure you stick to the rules!

Run by some of the crew from the wicked record store in Berhampore, this quiz promises to put your knowledge of music to the test! You’ll need your ears to be in tip-top shape, as this quiz consists of short excerpts of songs being played to teams – guess the name and artist. Be prepared for a few of those “it’s-on-the-tip-of-my-tongue” moments. Themed rounds and guest rounds will throw a spanner in the works too! Vouchers and spot prizes up for grabs – every Thursday from 7pm.

Amiria Grenell is a highly regarded singer-songwriter and recording artist, currently living in Wellington.
She hails from the famous Grenell Family: Country Legend dad - John Grenell, Hiphop Jazz Producer brother - Oakley Grenell and multi-instrumentalist brother - Redford Grenell (ex-Shapeshifter drummer).
Amiria has recorded several albums and has just released her latest album 'THREE FEATHERS'.
She has been performing since she was a little one at Music festivals, events and venues throughout New Zealand.
Her imaginative songwriting and guitar playing has impressed audiences around Aotearoa.
Amiria has successfully completed a nation-wide tour promoting her new album and has just finished touring New Zealand and Melbourne with 16 other musicians in FLY MY PRETTIES IV.

Hailing from Wellington New Zealand, The Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band is a step back in time to music that filled the watering holes and dance-halls of New Orleans in the 1930's and 40's. Heavily influenced by the legendary entertainer Louis Armstrong and his Hot Fives and Sevens, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band of New Orleans, the Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band looks to recreate the music and atmosphere found in the social and pleasure clubs of New Orleans during this time. The group features prominent Wellington musicians from bands such as Niko Nezna, Newtown Rocksteady, Zirigidum and Battlestar Galactika and our aim is to get asses shaking!

The Uprights+
Taking its’ name from the fact they use an old upright piano and upright bass (but not upright drums..) and featuring the rhythm section from The Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band, (Dayle Jellyman: upright piano; Dan Yeabsley: upright bass; Mike Jensen: drums), The Uprights bring a new flavour to the Wellington acoustic music and jazz scene aimed at gettin’ a good groove goin’on. The Uprights have more of a bluesy, gospel sound, in the style of Ramsey Lewis and Benny Green. Playing all their own material, they aren’t afraid to holler along to their own songs when the occasion suits either!

The Soul Caravan is a Wellington based group obsessed with soul and funky grooves! They play an eclectic mix of old skool soul infused music in a down home style. Recently formed they play all original material and have started gigging around Wellington. In classic soul style the music is uplifting, feelgood and is gonna make you get your groove on. So come along and bust out some shingaling moves! If you like your soul dirty, funky & fresh best be getting yourself down to their next gig to feel it in the flesh!

With styles changing week to week, there is always a different flavour for you to try, from salsa to rock and roll to tango! On Sundays we also put on a good old-fashioned roast dinner - perfect for that post-dancing appetite. Get your dancing shoes on and head down for a boogie and some kai, or even just to watch!
