Welcome to the Stonegrill Experience!  

Here at the Cross we do a few things a bit differently... one of our favourites is the Stonegrill. Being one of the only places in Wellington that has Stonegrill we feel it's our responsibility to make sure the experience is one to remember. In saying this, the Stones tend to go from an 'experience' to a full-blown addiction so be cool and watch your fingers!

Now introducing: 2 for 1 Stonegrills every Monday and Tuesday! Just buy one Stonegrill off our menu (excluding the Taste of The Cross sorry) and receive another of equal or lesser value FREE. Bring a mate, a date or just have two for yourself! Get sizzling from 12pm, only at The Southern Cross.

 

Stonegrills:

 

  • Beef rump 200g/400g with beer braised onions, roast garlic cloves and horseradish cream $17/$26

  • Surf & Turf - 200g/400g beef rump with two prawn skewers and garlic butter $22/29.5

  • Marinated tofu served with sauteed vegetables in rosemary oil $23 (Vegan)

  • Halloumi cheese served with a spinach, fig and flowering rosemary saute with a warm walnut honey on the side $24

  • Free range, corn fed chicken breast with BBQ corn cob slices and spiked orange glaze $19

  • 200g Beef eye fillet topped with a bruised herb and button mushroom bake with roast red pepper relish on the side $28

  • Lamb fillets with chilli-blistered plum tomatoes and homemade mint jelly $27

  • Taste of The Cross - 3 cuts of red meat, prawn tail kebabs with accompaniments, grilled flatbread, dips, smashed olives, pickled onions, piccalilli, vintage cheddar, cream crackers, devils on horseback, crispy corn cakes, popcorn seasoned with smokey BBQ salt, creamy coleslaw and a choice of either fries or mashed potatoes $60

And what exactly is Stonegrill dining?

Basically it's you cooking our top quality meats and rubs to your preferred taste and tenderness. We heat slabs of volcanic granite in our special kiln to 400 degrees Celsius, then place the finest cuts of meats with perfectly matched and homemade sauces on the slab and bring it sizzling to your table. We reckon it's the best way to taste the natural flavour of the meat and can't be beaten in the restaurant or garden in with a cool bevy in hand!

  • Easy: Our staff will show you how and within 1 min you'll be a pro!
  • Rare or well done? You choose and it's perfect every time, because while you chat you cook it yourself!
  • Hot to the last bite! The granite can cook for 30 mins and stays hot for an hour and a half!
  • Safe: Kids love the Stonegrill! 
  • Social and fun! Perfect with groups but not just a gimmick with its mouth watering flavour.
  • One of the only two places in town: One of Wellington's only Stonegrill dineouts, with just one other venue offering the stonegrill experience!
